Daniel Stowe Botanic Gardens “Orchid Spectacular” Takes You Away From The Winter Blues

Living Archways

Just outside of Belmont, North Carolina there are over 100 acres of gardens waiting to be explored at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens.  From willow mazes to garden fountains these gorgeously laid out botanic wonders offer a full sensory experience to visitors young and old year round.  However on this cool, rainy January day it was to the Orchid Conservatory to which my family and I slogged through the puddles and drips.  The five story, 8000 square foot conservatory houses thousands of tropical plants including orchids, and it was the orchids that I wanted to see. Starting January 20th and extending to March 18 the Conservatory is hosting it’s “Orchid Spectacular” and spectacular it is. …

Western Carolina University – A Recent Graduates Review

I have people ask me quite regularly, “How did you like going to school at Western?” Generally the answer I give them is along the lines of “Yeah, I enjoyed it.  The area is beautiful and it’s a great university.”  Although my response is honest and quite true, it doesn’t do my 4 years and $40,000+ justice.  So perhaps I will start a new trend where students will review and disclose the good and bad from their university experiences.  After all, they have no problem reviewing a $16.00 movie, $30.00 meal from a restaurant, or a $400.00 electronic device on the internet.  I would think students would be jumping at the gun to disclose information about something…

Wild at Heart Animal Rescue (WAHAR) is making small strides with large results for all those involved. It is an underdog in its mission(no pun intended) to giving animals a second chance at life. What is most interesting about this organization is that it…

However, elsewhere on Earth, there is much more daylight in summer than in winter. Copyright AP TAMPA – When does Daylight Saving Time end in 2011? It’s a question many have been asking. Since 2007, Daylight Saving Time, or DST for short, begins on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. The timer can be programmed to automatically adjust to and from Daylight Saving Time, allowing homeowners to enjoy an effortless transition when clocks are turn. Which I do. know…
