Greensboro will host 2018 USA Gymnastics Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, July 18, 2017 – The 2018 USA Gymnastics Championships, which features more than 1,800 of the nation’s best gymnasts in acrobatic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, and trampoline and tumbling, returns to Greensboro, N.C., which played host to the event in 2015. Scheduled for July 3-8, the competition, which includes both Junior Olympic and elite levels, will be held at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.   “We are excited to bring the USA Gymnastics Championship back to Greensboro and showcase the nation’s best athletes in these three disciplines,” said Ron Galimore, chief operating officer for USA Gymnastics. “Greensboro provides the perfect setting for this premiere event where fans can watch both elite and rising young talent.”  …

Greensboro Aquatic Center to host 2017 USA Diving Winter National Championships    

For the third time in five years, USA Diving will bring a national championship event to Greensboro, N.C.             The 2017 USA Diving Winter National Championships will be held December 13-19 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center (GAC).             The event will bring nearly 150 of the nation’s best divers to Greensboro as they compete for 10 national titles. Board Approves Budget for Fiscal Year 2017-18

The Hillsborough Board of Commissioners approved a budget totaling $22.8 million in operating expenses for Fiscal Year 2017-18 during its regular meeting Monday night. A public hearing was held May 22. The budget will become effective July 1, when the town’s new fiscal year starts. The budget includes: $10.4 million in expenses in the General Fund. $11.8 million in expenses in the Water/Sewer Fund. About $600,000 in expenses in the stormwater utility fund. Rates and fees The approved budget includes: Decreasing the property tax rate from 68 cents per $100 valuation to 62 cents. Water Customers May Notice Temporary Change in Taste and Odor

Some customers of the Town of Hillsborough water system may have noticed an earthy taste or odor to their water in recent days. The earthiness, which should not be cause for concern, is due to seasonal growth of algae in the West Fork Eno Reservoir and Lake Orange, which supply the town’s water treatment plant. The town adds powdered activated carbon during its water treatment process to remove tastes and odors. An increase in the amount of carbon used, which began several days ago, is expected to remove the earthy taste and odor within several more days.
