Jacksonville Youth Council to Host Volunteer & Job Fair this Saturday

Local youth will have a chance to speak with representatives from businesses and nonprofits   The Jacksonville Youth Council along with MCCS Lejeune-New River’s Family Member Employment Assistance Program will host a Teen Volunteer and Job Fair on Saturday, April 1 from 11AM to 2PM at the Jacksonville Youth Center, 804 New Bridge Street. Teens looking for a summer job or looking to earn community service hours will be able to speak with potential employers and representatives from local businesses and nonprofit organizations. Area employers will be on-site to share information regarding summer job opportunities and possible internships. Participants will also learn where they can earn community service or SAT hours. The event is free.

Hillsborough Named 35th Bee City USA

It’s not too early to start planning for spring and bees — especially since Hillsborough has been named the 35th Bee City USA! The town earned the designation from the nonprofit national organization of the same name for its work to reverse pollinator declines. As a designated Bee City, Hillsborough will work to help raise awareness of the role that pollinators play in sustaining more than 75 percent of the world’s plant species and to help expand pollinator-friendly practices and environments in town. The Hillsborough Police Department’s investigation into the arson and graffiti attack on the Orange County Republican Party headquarters yesterday is continuing, with a great deal of investigative activity taking place around the clock. “This case has been the sole focus of HPD investigators since it was reported Sunday morning,” Hillsborough Police Chief Duane Hampton said. “We are conducting many interviews, following every lead, and utilizing numerous investigative techniques and tactics.” The FBI has sent evidence from the crime scene to its lab in Quantico to be processed. The Hillsborough Board of Commissioners met Monday, Aug. 8, at the Town Barn, 101 E. Orange St. Following is a brief summary of noteworthy actions. Citizens Police Academy The board recognized the Hillsborough Police Department Citizens Police Academy graduates and presented them with graduation certificates. The academy was held from May 24 to July 5.
