NeSmith Grabs Spot on Jack Nicklaus Award Semifinalist List

  Senior one of 30 players up for national player of the year honor   April 28, 2016 NORMAN, Okla. — University of South Carolina Men’s Golf senior Matt NeSmith was named a semifinalist for the 2016 Jack Nicklaus Award, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Thursday. NeSmith is one of 30 student-athletes in contention for the national player of the year honor. NeSmith leads the Gamecocks with a 71.27 stroke average this season, and he’s tallied medalist victories at the Palmetto Intercollegiate and the General Hackler Championship in 2016. CHARLOTTE – Sophomore right-hander Hunter Williams pitched 6.1 scoreless innings and 13th ranked North Carolina belted out 11 hits on the way to a 15-0 victory over second ranked South Carolina on Wednesday night at BB&T Ballpark. The Gamecocks are now 28-6 on the year with North Carolina 24-9 for the season. Williams scattered six hits and walked one while striking out four batters. He is now 3-0 on the year.
