And One Thing Lead To Another….

Today (January 27th, 2012), I decided to visit my local art museum and see what they offered.  Since the closing of the Fayetteville Museum, I have wondered where they would now showcase the art of the triangle community. After some searching, I came across two right here in Fayetteville. I will proudly admit my dear readers that I am very “cheap” when it comes to finding entertainment and new things to do. The first place I stumbled upon was Cape Fear Studios which was actually established in 1989 and features national and local artists.  It seemed small and not really fitting the idea of what I deemed a “gallery”. With that frame…

Daniel Stowe Botanic Gardens “Orchid Spectacular” Takes You Away From The Winter Blues

Living Archways

Just outside of Belmont, North Carolina there are over 100 acres of gardens waiting to be explored at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens.  From willow mazes to garden fountains these gorgeously laid out botanic wonders offer a full sensory experience to visitors young and old year round.  However on this cool, rainy January day it was to the Orchid Conservatory to which my family and I slogged through the puddles and drips.  The five story, 8000 square foot conservatory houses thousands of tropical plants including orchids, and it was the orchids that I wanted to see. Starting January 20th and extending to March 18 the Conservatory is hosting it’s “Orchid Spectacular” and spectacular it is. …

Mellow Out With The Mushroom

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-Pizza has become one the americas favorite eats. Anything can go when it comes to pizza, but in a world where glueten free is becoming the norm, what pizza has risen to the challenge (no pun intended)? Now just in case you look at the name of the resturant and decide you would rather not, PLEASE reconsider. Imagine tasting a pizza made from spring water, which does have a distinct taste compared to other doughs made from the tap. Now how about fresh homemade ingridents  like garlic/pasta sauce, a freshly tossed salad, and a friendly atmosphere to boot? Well look no further because the California based resturant has found its way into Fayetteville, and these shroomies know how to…

The Wine Cafe: “Uncork a unique concept”

For those of us new to the whole wine tasting culture, it should be a delight to learn that there is a place where even the first timer will feel at ease. Whichever location you choose, the cafe in downtown Fayetteville, or the original in Hope Mills, the atmoshpere and the people are always welcoming you. The smooth wooden floors and the mellow lighting all have a hand in relaxing any patron. People in groups are smiling and talking about their day, nibbling on cheese and being at ease in this cozy and calming cafe. No one seems to be in any rush to leave, and the staff are more than willing…

WILD A HEART ANIMAL RESCUE…HELPING THOSE WHO CAN’T HELP THEMSELVES

When we think about the troubles in this world alot of things can come to mind. Homelessness, hunger, famine and war are at the top of the list. But most feel these things are too big of an issue to solve individually. However there are many things one person can accomplish in their community that can truly make a difference in a big way. Volunteer at a shelter, mentor troubled children/teens, or even less complicated adopt or foster a pet. Wild at Heart Animal Rescue (WAHAR) is making small strides with large results for all those involved. It is an underdog in its mission(no pun intended) to giving animals a second chance at life. What is most interesting about this organization is that it…

This Little Moose Went to Market: Moose Cafe Restaurant Review

You’ve heard of the little piggy that went to market, but what about the little moose? Moose Cafe is a North Carolina born and bred country restaurant with two locations in the state. Both Moose Cafes are located in farmer’s markets, making their access to fresh and seasonal vegetables convenient and giving new meaning to the phrase “farm to table.” The first restaurant opened more than fifteen years ago in the Western North Carolina Farmer’s Market of Asheville, and the second opened just a few years ago in the Piedmont Triad Farmer’s Market in Colfax. With only two locations in one state, you could say this moose is little, but authorities such as Our State and Southern Living have consistently recognized…
